Building a Culture of Academic Integrity Webinar
On Thursday 20th
of October 2022, the CAA organized a webinar entitled “Building a Culture of
Academic Integrity” as part of its
series to support the quality agenda across higher education institutions.
The purpose of the webinar was to focus on the
UAE Higher Education Institutions systems that address academic integrity issue
at institutional level through policies, processes and altering systems of
rewards, punitive measures, and assessment security.
The Academic Integrity webinar
hosted international keynote speakers who are experts in academic integrity and
contract cheating: Mr. Kane Murdoch, Head of Complaints, Appeals and Misconduct
Macquarie University, Australia and Prof. Rhys Rowlands-Jones former
Commissioner, UK. The webinar was attended by H.E. Prof. Mohammed Baniyas
Higher Education Advisor & Director CAA, UAE Higher Education Institutions
members and representatives from Higher Education sector, the total number of
attendees was 124.
During the webinar, following
topics were covered: academic integrity, assessment security and the future of
the university, the rising problem of contract cheating, and Ministry of
Education’s project on developing code of conduct. Moreover, several interactive
discussion sessions were run for the benefit of securing quality of higher education
as the integrity of that sector relies
primarily on academic integrity, taking into consideration the increasing
problems in the digital age and how continually the need to update its
practices, policies, and systems to foster academic integrity and commitment to
academic integrity by all its members.
