Conference Host

The 2009 INQAAHE Conference in Abu Dhabi is hosted by the COMMISSION FOR ACADEMIC ACCREDITATION (CAA).

The CAA is based in Abu Dhabi, the national capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was established in 2000 as part of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and covers all non-federal institutions in the country.

The mission of CAA is to promote educational excellence across diverse institutions of higher learning in the UAE. Through licensure of colleges and universities, and accreditation of individual programs, the Commission strives to assure the public of a high quality education, consistent with international standards of excellence.

The CAA discharges its responsibility for quality assurance in post-secondary education through:

  • Establishing and disseminating educational Standards;
  • Providing a licensure process that assures that prospective Educational Institutions have the essential documents, facilities, administration and faculty in place before they can offer academic programs;
  • Providing an accreditation process that assures that the educational programs offered by Institutes of Higher Education in the UAE will be of the highest quality as determined by UAE and international standards;
  • Promoting the utilization of Institutional Effectiveness as a process to assure that Institutes of Higher Education are continually improving the quality of the educational programs and facilities; and
  • Providing a database on licensed Higher Education Institutes in the UAE and accredited programs offered by them through an updated and informative webpage.
The CAA is currently engaged in developing accreditation standards for technical and vocational education and assisting in the development of a national qualifications framework. In addition, the CAA works closely with other UAE government agencies in evaluating overseas qualifications for education and employment purposes.
